Painter Van Duong Thanh was very touched and honored by the Embassy at the ceremony: "I am so emotional that Ambassador Verma makes such a wonderful and meaningful event for us, and I am so honored to be the Vietnamese artist who painted 3 portraits of the India National Hero Gandhi recently.

In 10 days, I painted this portrait with all my love and respect for him. I used the light and happiness colors, the green and yellow as the Indian flag, the white as his purity life, the orange, blue and violet as his philosophy shining forever to protect the earth, the people and peace.

When I was 12, my father took me to the One pillar pagoda to see the Bodhi tree - the gift from president Nehru to president Ho Chi Minh - the tree from where the Buddha sat and meditation in the forest. I started to be interested to learn more about India, culture, literature, arts, music… this made me - a humble artist - become a friend to Indian.

Today, I wear a white silk Ao Dai with the motif of lotus flowers that I designed, the white color that Mahatma Gandhi usually wears, the lotus is a symbol of Buddhist spirit, I want to use the Ao Dai Vietnam with the message of peace and friendship in memory of him".
