Artist realises female form for Women’s Day PDF Print E-mail
Painter Van Duong Thanh is celebrating International Women’s Day with a new exhibition of her work entitled  "Mother" (Nguoi Me).

On show are 60 paintings using a variety of media, including oil on canvas, lacquer and acrylic on silk. Thanh uses subtle colours and strong lines to represent the inner strength of the women she depicts.

In one piece, Phu Nu va Thien Nhien (Women and the Nature), Thanh shows a mother resting on bright grass under a brilliant blue sky with rows of trees disappearing into the distance. Here the figure of the woman represents beauty, fertility and women at one with nature.

The painting was previously displayed at the Fine Arts Museum in Sweden in 2000, where it was bought by Australian collector John Rosten.

The artist’s prestigious international profile was very important for Viet Nam, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Dinh Bin said.

"Van Duong Thanh’s paintings are a bridge for diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and the world."

His sentiments were echoed by French Ambassador Jean Francois Blarel. "Van Duong Thanh is well-known in the world. She has taught fine arts for hundreds of Swedish students."

The exhibition at Gallery C29, Lane 210, Nghi Tam Street, Ha Noi will wrap up on May 1. — VNS
